Prampolini Burri. Della Materia

The exhibition “Prampolini Burri. Della Materia” explores the use of unconventional materials – as opposed to the traditional medium of painting – by the Rome-based artists Enrico Prampolini (Modena, 1894 – Rome 1956) and Alberto Burri (Città di Catello 1915 – Nice 1995) whose practices embody a continuous experimentation with matter in art.

Their exploration of the multiple expressive possibilities of different materials are illustrated in the show at the Collezione Olgiati, which features around 50 works from prestigious international public and private collections. From Prampolini’s Futurist, mixed media pieces to Burri’s potent creations, the show also highlights how their use of matter channels the zeitgeist of a complext, unsetting period in history, manifesting its violence and disruptive, transgressive charge.
