Skira presents “William Kentridge”, a new volume dedicated to one of the most influential artists on the contemporary scene, marking the launch of the “Milestones. At the Heart of Creation series”, edited by Denise Wendel-Poray.

Available in bookstores from 6 February, the volume explores the roots of the artist’s visual language, addressing themes such as apartheid, collective memory, and the power of the creative gesture. Alongside an extensive selection of images and plates of the original works—presented and commented on by Kentridge himself—the book is enriched by a photographic feature shot in the artist’s studio by internationally renowned photographers including Jabulani Dhlamini, David Michalek, and Ruediger Glatz, as well as a previously unpublished family album. The visual apparatus is further complemented by an essay by scholar Stephen Clingman and a remarkable conversation with writer Julian Barnes.

With “William Kentridge”, Skira inaugurates the “Milestones. At the Heart of Creation” publishing series, conceived to offer readers an unprecedented insight into the creative processes of the most influential living artists of our time, in a “behind-the-scenes” narrative told by the protagonists themselves. Each volume in the series is accompanied by a rich visual section featuring the artist’s key works, commented on firsthand, alongside photographic reportage and a family album with personal materials and rarely seen documents.
